Editorial principles

The rules we hold ourselves to. They apply to every party, sect, bank, institution and foreign power in the same way.

Article 1. No side

We publish documents about every party, sect, bank and foreign power under the same rules. Who a document embarrasses never decides whether we publish it. We take no money from parties, governments or interest groups.

Article 2. The document comes first

We publish the full file whenever source safety allows it. We do not cut quotes to fit a story. Our description says what the document is and what it says, and the reader judges the rest.

Article 3. Context, not spin

Each record names the issuer, the date and the institutions involved. Commentary and analysis stay separate from the record and carry a byline of the desk.

Article 4. Right of reply

Anyone named in a document has the right to answer. We print replies in full next to the record, in the language they arrive in.

Article 5. Sources stay unnamed

We never identify a source, and we never hand material to any authority. Our software stores no names, IP addresses or file names. We redact anything that narrows down who had access.

Article 6. Public interest

We publish what Lebanese citizens need to judge the people who govern them, spend public money or shape the country from outside. We do not publish private lives that carry no public interest.

Article 7. Corrections in public

When we get something wrong, we fix it on the record and note what changed and when. We never quietly delete.
